5th Grade Newsletter
May 4, 2016
Once again we are attaching the calendar of events to this letter so that you will know what to prepare your child for each week. This time of year we have a lot of fun activities to end the school year with, so please make sure to read the calendar.
We do appreciate students being here every day for testing. It helps us and it helps them in the long run, so they aren’t making up testing during other class times. The students have finished with the LA tests and the Science tests for end-of-levels. Tomorrow morning students will be taking the math test. This will be the last end-of-level test students will have to take.
Our art specialist is planning a very fun, but messy activity for the last week of school, and she is asking the students to bring in a white t-shirt for this activity. We would like students to have them here for her by the end of this week, if at all possible.
On Thursday, May 12th we will be having the 5th grade Battle of the Books competition.
We still need some parent help with this. If you would like to help, you can either contact any of the fifth grade teachers or Mrs. Marriott. This activity is so much fun and our school has been the top winners for the last 2 years.
We do have our last field trip coming up on Monday, May 16th. We would love to have parent volunteers for this activity, as well. We will be going to Zion and we will be leaving at 9:00 and coming back in time to catch the buses at 3:30. We will be watching a movie at the big theater they have there in Zion, so we are asking each student for a donation of $3.00. We will need a lunch count by the end of next week, so if you can indicate whether your child will be bringing a home lunch or eating a school lunch. You will see a permission slip with the decision for the lunch indicated at the end of this letter. If you are wanting to come on the field trip, please indicate that, as well.
We hope that your child has been working on their part for our Great Americans program. All students are required to memorize their part they have been assigned, so please check with them to see if they are making progress with this. Make sure you are getting your costumes put together, because there will be a costume check on May 18th. Students will bring their costumes into school this day to show their teacher.
We only have two weeks left to finish up with our Reading Revolution reports. All reports are due on Tuesday, May 17th.
The last week of school we will be having our Field day. This will be Thursday, May 26th and we would love to have parents help with some track and field events. If you are one that could volunteer in helping this day, will you let Mrs. Little know? She can use help in the morning from 8:30 to 11:30 and for a little bit after lunch, from 12:15 to 1:15.
Thank you so much for all that you do, and all that you have done to help us this year. It is sad that it is all coming to an end.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Little, Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Williams
