Fifth Grade Newsletter
November 2, 2016

Parents,
As we dive into this new quarter, we ask that you please go to Powerschool each week to keep up on your child’s grades so you know how they are progressing.  Time can get away from us and before you know it, the end of the quarter is here and it is hard to get a ton of missing assignments turned in at the end of a quarter.  The more the students can stay caught up, the better off they will be.
We hope students are keeping up on their required reading at home.  We always encourage students to read more, if they have time.  Students in Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Little’s classes, will have their first Reading Revolution report due, for second quarter, on Tuesday, November 15th.  This is only a couple of weeks away, so be sure that your child is getting their book finished. Mrs. Payne’s students need to make sure they are reporting in their reading journals, every Wednesday, on the books that they are reading. Mrs. Payne’s students should have read one book so far this term. We have just started a new Poetry Unit in our reading classes.  Be sure to ask your child about the different poems they are learning to write and maybe have them share one or two with you.
Remember we will be having our Maturation program on Tuesday, November 22nd.  This will be at 2:30 for both the boys and girls.  The boys will meet in the gym and the girls will meet in the library.  Students are allowed to go home with their parents after the program.
The Thanksgiving break will start on  Wednesday, November 23 and will go through November 25th, so remember not come to school on those days.
Mrs. Williams's class won the box top contest! The box tops from just this one class earned about $175.00 for our school. Keep sending in box tops.
Be looking for the next newsletter and print out on Wednesday, November 16th.
Thank you so much for all of the help you provide us with, we do appreciate it.

                                                             Sincerely,

Mrs. Little, Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Williams
