FIFTH GRADE NEWSLETTER
March 29, 2017
Dear Parents,
Can you believe that it is fourth quarter already? Time has just passed us by this year. WE LOVED THE GREAT SCIENCE PRESENTATIONS!! Thank you for supporting your child with this project.
Fourth quarter is always the hardest quarter to stay caught up, because of all the extra activities that pop up at the end of the year, and the “Spring Fever” we all get. With spring fever in the air it makes it really hard to remember what is due, and to even want to get assignments done, but we encourage students to stick with it, for just a few more months.
Please register for the “Chromebooks for Classrooms Color Run”. Your student should have brought home a packet last week. Our great PTA is trying to earn enough money to get six more full classroom sets of Chromebooks, so that our students will have the same advantages as kids from other schools. They have already committed to using $10,000 that they have been building up in their account. If every student can get at least $30.00 in pledges, we will reach our goal for this year. We feel that this acquisition of chromebooks will greatly enhance the educational experiences of your children.
The Talent show is this Friday at 10:45 for upper grades.
Our Field trip to Zion is next Tues., April 4. If you have not returned the lunch order, we need it by tomorrow! We will be hiking Emerald Pools, which is not too strenuous. Wear sturdy shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Be sure to bring some water and your lunch, if not ordering a school lunch. We will return to school by 2:30 to watch Treasure of the Gods and will be dismissed at the regular time.
Students will be getting scripts for our Great American Heroes Program very soon. They will need to memorize their parts and come up with a costume. The program will be on Tues., May 16 @ 2:00. We will be performing it in the morning for the school @ 10:00. We will be asking for some musical instrumental solos or duets . We will send a list of what we are looking for, when the students receive their scripts. Students will be able to try out for these parts.
READ, READ , READ!!!!! We want to remind the students about all the reading activities that are coming up Remember to bring your planners each week with your reading times written down ( Mrs. Payne’s class should be filling out their reading journals.), for the different Reading Rewards. Our school reading celebration is on Fri., April 28. We will focus on the author Roald Dahl. Kite Flight for Reading is on Saturday, April 29. Remember this isn’t additional reading, but the same reading you record on your planners each week. We will also be having our Battle of the Books battle on May 11, so let’s get those books read ASAP, so we can battle! Our Reading Revolution Awards will be given in the middle of May, so be working on those last few Genres that you might need, to get those awards that you have worked so hard for during the year. The last day to turn in book reports or journals is Friday, May 12.
End of Level testing is sneaking up on us, as well. It is very important that students are here every day this last quarter, because of the new concepts being taught to them, and reviews for the tests. We will be taking our End of Level tests between April 27 and May 9. We will be sending a schedule of testing dates and times home on Monday. This will also include dates and times of all events that we are aware of for the remainder of the year. Please look for it on Monday.
There will be no school the week of Monday, April 17-Friday, April 21. This is our Spring Break.
Be looking for the next Blog update and grades coming home on Wed., April 26th.
Thank you so much for your help and support.
Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Payne, and Mrs. Little
