Fifth Grade Newsletter/December 4, 2019

Dear Parents,

We hope all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving break, and that you are looking forward to Christmas break coming up in just a few weeks.  It is crazy how time flies by so fast. Can you believe we are already halfway through the year?
We would like to thank those parents that were able to attend the D.A.R.E graduation yesterday.  The kids were excited about being able to graduate from this awesome program.
With Christmas break quickly approaching, we do have a lot of fun Christmas activities coming up these next few weeks that you will need to be aware of.
Our fifth grade students will get to attend the Willy Wonka play on Tuesday, December 17th. This play will cost each student a $1.00. This will be held at the old hospital and there will be a bus that will take us there and bring us back.  Please sign the permission slip that is stapled to this newsletter, if you are okay with your child attending this activity.
We have our Worker’s Holiday sneaking up on Thursday, December 19th.  More information on this activity will be sent home in the next newsletter, but please make sure your child is staying caught up, so they aren’t playing catch up at the last second.  All make up work will be required to be turned into their teacher by Wednesday, December 18th.  Students will be getting another progress report sent home with them on Monday, December 16th, but it is a good idea to get work turned into their teacher, now.
We will be making fudge in a bag on Friday, December 20th and we are asking for a $1.00 donation to help in getting the ingredients for this yummy snack.  This activity goes along with our Matter unit.  Students will need to figure out whether their fudge in a bag will be a physical change or a chemical change. Be sure to ask your child what they think it will be.
Each fifth grade class will be having their own Christmas parties this year.  The Christmas parties will be on Friday, December 20th.  Each class will have a gift exchange.  We ask that students keep the cost of their gift under $3.00.  Boys will get a gift for another boy and girls will get a gift for another girl.  Boys and girls will need to label their gift - To a boy, From a boy and girls label their gift - To a girl, From a girl.  (If you are unable to get a gift, please let your child’s teacher know).  We will be making the fudge in a bag after lunch for our party, so we won’t be asking for any extra treats, but if students want to bring their own treat/snack in for the movie, we will be having in the afternoon, they are more than welcome to do that.
The next progress report will be sent home on Monday, December 16th.
Thanks for all of your help, we do appreciate it.
                                                                       Sincerely,

Mrs. Little, Mrs. Illian and Mrs. Sherratt
