5th GRADE NEWSLETTER
  March 7, 2017

Science Expo forms are due.  If your child has not returned the blue sheet declaring his/her intentions, please make sure that happens right away. Knowing your child’s plans helps us prepare our classroom for this big event, and it helps your child prepare ahead ;)  We are eager to see the experiments, inventions, and research projects our students will be sharing.  As explained in the last newsletter, the Science Expo itself will be held on Tuesday, March 28 in each 5th grade classroom during the morning.  Families are invited to come between 2:45-3:30. You can take your child home at 3:30, if you’d like.  Let us know if you have questions.

Thanks for returning the American Hero Report forms. We teachers are using that information to write the script for our 5th grade program held in May. The music teachers are teaching the songs for that program, and the art teacher will be teaching our students to sketch a portrait of their hero. Students will get a script in April.  It will be an impressive production.

Worker’s Holiday will be held at the Aquatic Center next Tuesday, March 14.   All assignments must be turned in by Monday morning, March 13th.  We will ride buses to and from, and will swim from 10:00-11:30 AM. If any of you parents would like to help, we could use four chaperones who are willing to get in the water with the students.  Please let us know.
Also, we need you to sign the Verification slip giving your child permission to attend the Worker’s Holiday (providing s/he has all assignments turned in and has an 80% or above) and return it by Monday, March 13th.  We are asking for a $2.00 donation each to cover the cost of renting the pool. The concession stand will be open, if students want to purchase items. Thanks!

K-6 Utah State Chess Tournament:  if your child is interested in this, you can let us know and we can send you the info, or you can go to this site-  utahchess.com.
Yearbook Artwork entries are due Monday, March 13.

No school this Thursday and Friday. This is a Teacher Development day for teachers only.  Enjoy your family this long weekend and we will see your child on Monday 13th.   Please don’t hesitate to email us with your questions.
