Fifth Grade Newsletter/December 19, 2017

Dear Parents,
We first want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, too.  We hope all of you can enjoy your Christmas break with your kiddos.  Remember that the last school day before we break for Christmas will be tomorrow, Dec. 20th.  There will be no school from Dec. 21st through January 1st.  Students will return back to school on Tuesday, January 2nd.
Mrs. Little and Mrs. Williams will be having their gift exchange tomorrow during their Christmas parties.  If your child has not purchased a gift yet, please remind them to bring that for tomorrow.  Please let your child’s teacher know if you are unable to get a gift.  Remember that girls get a gift for a girl and boys get a gift for a boy, and please do not spend more than $3.00.  Boy’s label their gift- To a boy, From a boy and girls label their gift- To a girl, From a girl.  For all 3 classes, If you would like to donate some treats for our party, please just send in the items in quantities of 30 (candy, cookies etc.).  If you bring in chips or crackers,1 bag or box is plenty.
We want students to still read their 20 minutes each night, so they can stay caught up on their fluency and comprehension during this long break. They can also complete book reports for Reading Revolution.  We also encourage students to have their missing assignments turned into their teacher by tomorrow, but they do have until Tuesday, January 2, 2018 to get all their missing items completed, in order to qualify  for Worker’s Holiday.  Worker’s Holiday will be on Friday, January 5th, the week we get back from Christmas break.  We will be having a game day.  Students that are qualified, can bring in their games from home to play with the other students that qualified for Worker’s Holiday.  Electronics are allowed, with the exception of X-Box, Nintendo, and those type of games, but please know that if your child does bring an electronic game, they are held accountable for it.  This activity will be held in the afternoon. Students not earning the holiday will work on missing assignments that afternoon.
All students were given an assignment by their D.A.R.E officer to interview a family member on a certain experience they have had.  Please, make sure to ask your child about this assignments, so they can make sure to have it completed by the next time they have D.A.R.E. (Jan. 8) Students will need to have this assignment completed in order to graduate from the D.A.R.E program.
Our first newsletter and grades for 3rd quarter will be sent home on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.
Thanks for all of your help, we do appreciate it.  Enjoy the holidays…..
                                               Sincerely,

Mrs. Little, Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Williams
