5th Grade Newsletter        APRIL 10, 2019
Dear Parents,

Mr. Oldroyd has reiterated that trading cards, including Pokemon, are not to be brought to school. Remind your students to leave their toys at home. It is unfortunate if they are lost, broken or stolen at school,as they should be enjoyed at home.
We will be going on a field trip to St. George tomorrow, Thursday, April 11.  Please have your student dress in layers for the cold of Cedar City and relative warmth of St. George. We will leave right at 8:50 and return by 3:25.
We will be giving your child a script for the Great American program at the end of April. Students will need to memorize the short part that each will be given.  Be looking for an appropriate costume for your child’s character.  We still need a few instrumental music solos for our program.  We are needing (hopefully): “New York, New York”, (or another movie tune), “Stars and Stripes Forever”, “Home on The Range”,  and a classical type piece.  If your child would like to do one of these, have them let us know and we can have him/her audition for the number. We would like these solos selected by April 24. (Yankee Doodle, My Country 'Tis Of Thee, and Olympic Fanfare have been taken already).
Please continue to put reading time on the Kite Flight Calendar.  Students will turn these in on Saturday, April 27, at the CMS soccer field  between 10 and 3 to receive prizes, and earn money for South Elementary.
Only three more weeks to earn the Patriot Award!  Last day is Friday, May 3. Seven students have already achieved this, and several more are really close.  Thanks for signing off, helping and encouraging your child to earn this big award.
Each student needs to bring a white cotton t-shirt(new or old) to tie-dye in art by Wed., May 15.
We are continuing to learn many new things, so attendance is very important.  Our testing schedule is listed on the calendar below. Your child will be in the best situation by taking the test with the whole class at the scheduled times.

Thank you for your continued support.
Mr. Sahagun, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Little,
          & Mrs. Payne
