5^th Grade Newsletter

Parents,

         Thank you so much for your support.  We love South Elementary!  We are thrilled that most of the students are very responsible and hard workers. This newsletter has MUCH information, so please read through all of it.

         Attached to this letter you will find a current progress report for your student.  Please go over it with your child. If your child

has anything missing, a bright yellow missing assignment report  will be attached.  Anything that is missing needs to be made up within the next two weeks.  If an assignment is marked with an “ex”, it is excused and does not need to be made up.  NEWSLETTERS AND PROGRESS REPORTS  REQUIRE A PARENT SIGNATURE.

School pictures are on Monday, Sept. 9.  All students will have their picture take, however, you will only get pictures if you return the paid packet.  Don’t forget the “BACK TO SCHOOL BASH” also on Monday, Sept. 9 from 5:30-8:00!!

 Orchestra is every Tuesday and Thursday.  Please remember your instruments!!  Instruments are NOT needed this week.

The Maturation programs are on Monday, Sept. 16.  This will be in the gyms  The boys are at1:00 and the girls are at 2:00. Please be sure to sign the permission slip and return it to school.

         We are going on a field trip on Friday, Sept. 20.  We will be going to Mammoth Caves on Cedar Mountain.  We will leave at 9:00 AM and return at 3:25 PM in time for students to leave school at their regular time. Students will need to wear sturdy shoes and long pants.  Hats and jackets would be great.  Students should bring a water bottle and a FLASHLIGHT.  Cameras are fine.  If you would like to go on the field trip with us, please let us know.  Also, please let us know if you need a school lunch. They are $3.50 for adults.

         Daily Planners, with reading time should be checked daily and turned in every Monday.  Mrs. Little and Mrs. Williams’s planners are bright green.  Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Garret’s planners and reading charts are gold.

         Spelling pre-tests and two spelling letters are being sent home today with Mrs. Little and Mrs. Williams’s students.

         Be sure to sign and return the Maturation permission letter.

         If you have not yet sent in your portfolio binder and sheet protectors, please do so right away. (Not Mrs. Garrett) 

Be sure to check our school web sites and our class Blogs. (Mrs. Little and Mrs. Williams yet to come.) You can check your child’s grades on Power School using their ID and password as often as you want. You can also go to www.thinkcentral.com to access our math. (Students should know how to do this.)
