5TH GRADE NEWSLETTER
SEPTEMBER 18, 2018
Dear
Parents,
Can you believe that
we are already halfway through first quarter. Time really does fly by
when you are having fun.
We want to encourage
students to keep up their reading each night that they have been doing.
We are seeing a lot of Reading Revolution reports being filled out in
Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Little’s rooms. In Mrs. Payne’s and Mr. Sahagun’s
room the reading journals are looking awesome.
The Orchestra students
have gotten off to a good start and have been required to bring their instruments
for a couple of weeks now. Please keep up the good work in remembering to
bring those instruments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is always good to take them home, as well,
so that students can practice each night.
Be sure to look
at your child’s progress report online tonight, as well as this Blog (Mr.
Sahagun classroom dojo) If you see that your child is missing
any work, they will have until Friday to get their missing assignments into
their teacher. Students that have all their missing work handed in
and have an 80% or better, on their overall grade, will get to attend Worker’s
Holiday on Monday, September 24th. For this Worker’s
Holiday, we will be having a kickball tournament with a treat for students at
the end of the tournament. We will start the activity at 12:45 and it will
end at 2:15. The students that don’t qualify this time around will
stay in with a teacher to get caught up on their missing work, so they can
possibly make it to the next Worker’s Holiday.
Don’t forget our
Field trip on Thursday, September 27th. We will be seeing a
volcano, Mammoth Caves, and hiking the Alpine Loop at Cedar Breaks. There
will be lots of hiking at the caves and at the Alpine Loop, so make sure
that your child wears good hiking shoes, and brings plenty of water.
Students will need to remember to bring a flashlight/headlamp if they
plan on going into the cave; it is pitch black in there, and students won’t be
able to see, if they don’t have one. It would also be smart to wear
long pants, because the cave can get pretty cold. It might be getting a
little cold on the mountain, as well, so a light jacket or sweatshirt would be
smart to bring. We will leave the school at 9:00 and will be back
at 3:25, just in time to catch the bus to go home. We do have
enough parent help for this field trip.
Please ask your
child for your schedule for SEOP. If you can make the time that
is scheduled for you then sign and return, but if you can’t make the scheduled
time, please fill your name in an open time that would be better for you, and
we will let you know if it will work or not.
South Elementary
Family Fun NIght will be on Monday, September 24 at the Fiddler’s Fun
Center. Movies are at 4:30 and 7:00, with lots of other fun. Information
has been sent home today.
There will be a Code
Changer kickoff event at Cedar Middle School on October 10, 2018 at 6:00 PM.
Go and discover what coding is all about and sign up for the free
after-school program.
The next blog will
be posted MONDAY, Oct 1.
