5th Grade Newsletter Sept. 3, 2014
Dear Parents,
We are so excited to be back in school! We are loving your cute kids.
Attached to this letter is a progress report. If your child has any missing assignments, a half sheet of bright yellow paper will also be attached with the missing assignments listed. Students need to complete and return missing work right away. We are working at using less paper and plan in the near future to have you go to PowerSchool to check your child’s progress and read the newsletter on our class blogs. If you don’t have your PowerSchool login information you will need to get one from Mrs. Smith in the front office. We are in the process of updating our blogs to make this work. (We will let you know when they are good to go). If you have not yet emailed your child’s teacher, please do so as soon as possible.
We want to stress the importance of nightly reading and using the class planners. Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Little’s planner is bright green. Mrs. Payne’s is blue. These need to be checked daily to help students be successful. The planners need to be signed by a parent and returned each Monday. Also, be encouraging your child to work on Reading Revolution books and reports. The first book report is due by Monday, September 15.
The PTA Back To School Bash(Carnival) will be on Monday, September 8 from 5:30-8:00. If you haven’t signed up for the PTA alerts by text or email, you will want to do that soon, so that you will receive the information about this. School Pictures will also be on Monday, September 8. If you want to purchase pictures you must send the packet back by picture day. All students will have their pictures taken, whether you are buying them or not.
Just for your information, we have Discovery Gateway from Salt Lake City, coming to do a chemistry program for us on Wednesday, September 10.
We are going on a field trip to Cedar Mountain on Monday, September 22. We will be seeing a volcano, Mammoth Caves, and hiking the Alpine Loop at Cedar Breaks. Students need to wear long pants and sturdy shoes. They also need a flashlight or headlamp, because there is no light in the cave. Bringing a jacket and water is also advised. We leave right at 9:00 and return at 3:25 in time for the busses. Parents are welcome to come with us.
The next newsletter and progress report will be sent home on Wednesday, September 17. Our first Worker’s Holiday will follow soon after that. You will get information about it in the September 17 newsletter.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Little, & Mrs. Payne
P.S. Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Little’s students also have a spelling letter and word list attached.
