Reading Revolution:  All students should have read at least one book so far this year.  The second is due on the 14th.  Those who are working toward the Freedom Award should read five books this term.  We hope all our students are working for that goal!
Science:
We enjoyed our field trip to Cedar Breaks/Mammoth Caves.  We appreciate those who chaperoned this trip.   Our Volcano Explosion Day is coming up on the 15th from 12:30-1:20. Please read the attached letter explaining this.   You are invited to come and see all the creative volcanoes and watch the eruptions.  This will be held on the upper playground. Please do not park in the bus zone.
Social Studies:  We are studying the American Revolution.  We feel that our students are learning valuable information, and we want them to feel the emotion of these events and people, and come away with strong feelings for our country.   We hope they are sharing with you what they learn.
Math:    Our students are learning some challenging concepts that may require your help at home.   We hope you will take the time to help them.    Good news:  You can access our math book online, anywhere you have the Internet.   Our 5th grade students have learned how to do this, so they can show you how.  This means they can access their math books when they are sick or leave their books at school.  You will find the math link on our class blogs.
Click on Go Math.   user name is: firstnamelastname, and the password is gomath.
Writing:    Students have been writing autobiographical pieces, while learning how to organize their ideas and use details in their writing.    We are excited about their progress.
Reflections Contest Entries are due October 29th.  The theme is “The World Would Be a Better Place if…”    Entry forms are in the office.   The categories are literature, art, photography, music, dance, video.
This will be the last printed newsletter and grade printout that we will send home. We will instead send a verification form for you to sign, stating that you have read the newsletter on our class  blog and have gone to  Power School to check your student's grades. We will still send a missing assignments report on bright yellow paper if your child has work missing.  Look for the first verification form on Monday, October 13th.
We are looking forward to meeting with you and your child at SEP Conferences.  We hope you feel free to share your concerns with us.  We want your child to succeed and grow this year!

                Sincerely,
Mrs. Payne, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Little
