February 18, 2015 Newsletter

Parents,
Thank you so much with the help you have given us, and your child with the SAGE writing test, thus far.  It is so helpful to us that we have all of our students present on the day we take the test.  We feel that the students did a great job with the first part of this writing test and want to remind you that they will be taking their second writing test, tomorrow morning. The typing practices have really helped the students with these test, as well.  Please, make sure they continue to practice, so they are even better at typing by the time we have end of level testing, in April.
Your child will have a list of Famous Americans that changed History, with them today.  They will need to choose a list of 10 Americans they would want to be for our Great American Hero program.  We want students to have 10 people in mind, just in case they don’t get their first or second choices.  We will be picking these Famous Americans, for our students, next Friday, February 27th, so please have them have their choices figured out by then.  There will be a Biography information sheet sent home with them on the 27th, once they have been assigned their American Hero.  This will need to be filled out and turned back into your child’s teacher by March 9th.
Remember that Parent Conferences will be held the first week of March.  Your child will bring home your scheduled time with them today.  If the time does not work for you, email the teacher, or fill your name in on a time that is available for you and your child’s teacher will let you know if it will work or not. We look forward to meeting with you and your child.
Your child will be bringing information home about the Science and Engineering Expo.  Please make sure you read the letter and the information that goes along with the different categories that are available to students this year.  The Science Expo will not be judged; however, projects will be graded. We ask that the registration form be filled out and turned in to your child’s teacher by Monday, March 2nd. The fourth and fifth grades are the only grades doing the Science Expo this year.  Students will need to have their project or research paper completed by Friday, March 27th. Parents can come view the projects in the gym, from 2:00 to 3:00 on this same day.
We are just finishing up with our Matter unit in science, and we would like to end the unit by making “fudge in a bag”.  This is a costly activity, so we are asking for a donation of $1.00 per student.  If you could donate this amount for your child, it would be greatly appreciated.  We would like the donations by Tues., February 24th.  We are planning on doing this activity on Friday, February 27th.   If any of you would like to come and help us on this day, please feel free to do so.  We will be starting it at 1:45.
If you haven’t sent in the permission slip for Mrs. Bassett’s lesson on the choking game, that will need to be sent into your child’s teacher as soon as possible.
Students have been chosen for the spelling bee and should have taken a list home with them last week; however, a new list will be coming home with them today, with all of the words for the whole spelling bee.
The next newsletter will be posted on Wednesday, March 11th.
                                                             Sincerely,

                                                             Mrs. Little and Mrs. Williams
